Geoffrey Oryema - Exile 1990 Brought to you by TQMP The Quality Music Project At the age of 24, at the height of Idi Amin's power and following the death of his father, a prominent government minister, in a mysterious car accident, Oryema had to be smuggled across the border in the trunk of a car, thus beginning a life in exile. Today his songs keep alive the languages of his youth - swahili and acoli and return to the lost country - The 'clear green land' of Uganda -- amazon.com Oryema plays the nanga, a zither described as having seven strings, though some have one string that runs seven times across the instrument making them hell to tune. This is half of a terrific CD -- wonderful except when Brian Eno and co. get in on the act and undercut it. You can program out the well-meaning-but-blah bits -- unless you disagree anyway, in which case all is well. -- allmusic.com Tracks 01- Piny Runa Woko 02- Land of Anaka 03- Piri Wango Iya 04- Ye Ye Ye 05- Lacan Woto Kumu 06- Makambo 07- Jok Omako Nyako 08- Solitude 09- Lubanga 10- Exile Artwork, EAC log and CUE sheet included.
